Here is Eddie Alvarez fighting Roger Huerta at Bellator 33 which took place on 10/21/10 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Eddie Alvarez (25-4, 0-1 UFC) will look to rebound from a decision loss to Donald Cerrone when he fights Gilbert Melendez (22-4, 1-2 UFC) at UFC 188.

Bellator Forecast
Last weeks Bellator - Chicago fight card was loaded with action. This week Bellator travels to Kansas City and features middleweight tournament fights.
Crystal Lake's Pat Curran set the night on fire in Chicago with a one punch right hand KO over previously undefeated Mike Ricci. Pat had advanced to fight UFC veteran and former contender Roger Huerta at Bellator 17 on May 6th.
(Curran KO's Ricci)
Submission specialist Toby Imada scored slick second round arm bar to defeat James Krause and move up the lightweight tournament ladder. He will face Carey Vanier (8-2, 1-0 BFC) who defeated Joe Duarte via TKO in the third round of his opening round fight.
Olympic wrestling phenom Ben Askren won in a slightly controversial manner over UFC veteran Ryan Thomas. Askren looked to lock in a modified guillotine, and as Thomas rolled it appeared Askren's hands loosened. The ref explained after the fight that he ask Thomas to give him a sign, and Thomas did not. A loud group of Thomas fans boo'd the decision, and continued to heckle that ref through the night.

(Chicago Theatre)
Ryan Thomas has been tabbed as an alternate, and will face undefeated Jacob McClintock at Thursday's Bellator 15. Thomas is replacing Jim Wallhead, who is grounded in the UK due to the volcanic ash from Iceland. Askren's oppenent has yet to be announcerd.
Sengoku's rising star Dan Hornbuckle (19-2) will also fight on Bellator 15 in the welterweight tournament, fighting Tyler Stinson (16-5). Hornbuckle is riding a four fight win streak, with back to back Sengoku KO's of UFC veterans Nick Thompson and Akhiro Gono.

Bellator 155 Pound Tourney
Bellator Fighting Championships has been slowly leaking the participants to their 145, 155, 170 and 185 pound 8 man tournaments. The latest addition to the 155 pound tournament is the biggest name in the field so far, former UFC star Roger Huerta.
Roger Huerta's star rose after defeating Leonard Garcia in the UFC in a very entertaining, back and forth battle. Huerta's biggest victory date was his insane, action packed come from behind effort against Clay Guida. Despite being down 2 rounds on the scorecards, he was able to stun Guida before getting his back and locking in a rear naked choke.
Huerta would then be in a series of contract disputes, some acting roles in movies like Tekken and suffer two heartbreaking decisions to Gray Maynard and Kenny Florian. Huerta's goal will be to win the 155 pound Bellator tournament to guarantee a shot against last years winner, Eddie Alvarez.
It has been announced that Toby Imada is fighting Ferrid Kheder in the first round.
Here is a look at the pairings:
Toby Imada (23-13) Bellator runner-up, Sub over Jorge Masvidal
Ferrid Kheder (16-5) 2000 Olympic judoka, W over Drew Fickett
Janne Tulirinta (12-3) Finnish fighter, 5 wins in M-1
Cary Vanier (7-2) Team Jackson fighter, 6 fight W streak
Mike Ricci (5-0) GSP training partner, 3 TKO's
Pat Curran (9-3) Tapout Show Vet, W's over Tony Hervey & Robbie Oliver
Chad Hinton (6-0) Ohio based fighter, KO over Jeff Cox
Roger Huerta (20-3) UFC vet, W's over Matt Wiman & Clay Guida

UFN 19 - Oklahoma City
Oklahoma City was ready and rocking for the return of the UFC for the first time since the epic UFC 4 tournament rolled into town in December of 1994. That tournament had an epic finish with Royce Gracie narrowly defeating Dan Severn after taking a beating for 15 minutes. This Ultimate Fight night featured three epic fights before the main event.
Nate Diaz def Melvin Guillard via sub (guillotine) R2, 2:13- In the main event, Nate Diaz was able to get back on track with a submission victory over the uber athletic Melvin Guillard. In the first round, Guillard went on the offensive, tagging Diaz in the eye knocking him to the canvas. When he got up, blood streamed from Diaz' eye.
However, in the second round, Guillard got a little too comfortable and found himself stuck in a modified guillotine. Soon after Guillard was tapping.
*Diaz wins Submission of the Night.
Gray Maynard def Roger Huerta via split dec- Huerta looked to utilize his advantage in kickboxing to keep Maynard at bay from long distance. Maynard consistently tried to close the distance and tag Huerta with a big punch.
In the third round, Maynard finally got the fight to the mat and locked in a kimura. It seemed as if Huerta's shoulder was going to be ripped off, but somehow he managed to roll out of it. Huerta's heart will never be questioned. I scored the fight 29-28 Maynard, the judges scored it 30-27 twice for Maynard, once 29-28 Huerta.
Carlos Condit def Jake Ellenberger via split dec- Ellenberger didn't get the memo that he was supposed to be a big time underdog. In the first round he worked over Condit with big punches, causing Condit to go into the fetal position on numerous occasions. The ref did a good job letting the action go.
In the second and third rounds, Condit seemed to get better positions on the ground, get mount, and almost get submissions. But, Ellenberger always seemed to escape. I scored the fight a 28-28 draw, while the judges scored it 29-28 twice for Condit, once 29-28 Ellenberger.
Nate Quarry def Tim Credeur via unanimous dec- This fight was an all-out battle and definitely a contender for fight of the year. In the first round, Credeur looked to be landing more effective combinations, kicks and jabs. Near the end of the round, Credeur send Quarry to the canvas and followed him to the ground, nearly getting a fight ending rear naked choke.
In the second and third, Quarry was able to land big right hands, knocking Credeur to the canvas. From there, Quarry unleashed some good ground and pound, with Creduer countering with submission attempts and striking from his back. The crowd was screaming throughout, as both fighters threw punches back and forth.
*Quarry and Credeur win Fight of the Night Bonus.

UFN 19 - Diaz v. Guillard Preview
UFN 19 will come to us live on Spike TV right before the debut of TUF 10 - Heavyweights. The event will take place in the Cox Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The main event will pit TUF 5 Champ Nate Diaz against TUF 2's Melvin Guillard.
Nate Diaz (10-4) is known for his dynamic Brazilian Jiu Jitsu skills and ever improving boxing. He is coming off two disappointing and kind of lazy decision losses to Clay Guida and Joe Stevenson. Prior to that, Diaz had unleashed five straight wins which included 4 submissions and a decision over Josh Neer.

(Nate Diaz pictured)
Melvin Guillard (22-7) has shown flashes of being an extremely talented athlete in KO victories over Denis Silver, Gabe Ruediger and Rick Davis. However, he is also prone to trash talking and coming out on the wrong end of a submission. Guillard will try to sprawl and brawl his way to his third straight victory.

UFC 87 Preview
UFC 87 will be held this Saturday at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. All fighters made weight, with Brock Lesnar weighing the heavyweight limit at 265.
WW Champ Georges St. Pierre vs. Jon Fitch- GSP at (16-2) is one of the best athlete's in the game and has some of the best overall skills in MMA. In his last three fights he has destroyed Matt Serra, beat up Matt Hughes, and out wrestled one of the best wrestlers in Josh Koscheck.
Jon Fitch at (18-2) has rattled off 8 straight victories of his own inside the octagon. However, a couple have been split decisions, and were very close. Fitch has a complete all-around game and will have to use it in this fight. I see the fight taking place on the feet, with GSP unleasing a fury.
Brock Lesnar vs. Heath Herring- In Lesnar's (1-1) first fight he worked over Min So Kim in K1. In his second effort he beat up Frank Mir, until Mir sensed Lesnar stand up while in guard, grabbed his leg and pulled off a submission. Herring (28-13) has gone 2-2 in the UFC with all four fights going to decision. His last fight was an ugly decision victory over Cheick Kongo.
Lesnar has proven he can get takedowns in MMA. He hasn't proven that he can avoid submissions. I think Lesnar will overwelm Herring and get a TKO early. The fight won't go past the second round.
Kenny Florian vs. Roger Huerta- Florian at (9-3) has looked dominant in his four straight wins inside the UFC. He has beaten Joe Lauzon, Din Thomas, Alvin Robinson and Dokonjonosuke Mishima winning each by early stoppage. Huerta at (20-1) has not beaten the same level of competition as Florian. Huerta is an extremely exciting fighter and most likely will keep it standing. This fight could end up being a muay thai/kickboxing battle on the feet.
Rob Emerson vs. Manny Gamburyan- Manny Gamburyan (8-2) looks healthy and has won two straight since his injury loss against Nate Diaz in the TUF 5 finale. Emerson is coming off a decision win over Keita Nakamura in UFC 81.
Jason MacDonald vs. Demian Maia- Jason MacDonald is coming off a big win over Joe Doerkson after his loss to Yushin Okami. Maia is a perfect (7-0) a submission wizard, with BJJ blackbelt. MacDonald holds some impressive submission victories as well. The winner will likely be put up near a top contender spot.
-Undercard-
Luke Cummo vs. Tamdan McCrory
Dan Evensen vs. Cheick Kongo
Jon Jones vs. Andre Gusmao

Who fights the winner of BJ Penn v. Sean Sherk?

Roger Huerta (20-1, 6-0 UFC) and Kenny Florian (9-4, 7-2 UFC) have emerged as the frontrunners in the 155 pound division. Florian has won four straight, all finishes, after his loss to Sean Sherk. Huerta has six straight victories, four ending by early stoppage. Huerta is coming off a battle with Clay Guida in which he may have been down the first two rounds. Huerta was eventually able to get the rear naked choke for the come from behind victory.
*Close behind would have to be Tyson Griffin (11-1, 4-1 UFC) who has three straight decision victories over quality competition.
*Nate Diaz (9-2, 4-0 UFC) needs to fight Tyson Griffin, Florian or Huerta as he is ready to fight the top tier competition. All his victories have come by submission.
*5'6" Frank Edgar (8-1, 3-1 UFC) may want to move to the 145 division after being bullied by Gray Maynard. The time is right for the UFC to start a 145 division bringing over Faber, Pulver and Garcia.
*Quietly, Matt Wiman (9-3, 3-1) has 3 straight victories in the UFC at 155.
*Gray Maynard (5-0, 3-0 UFC) looked dominant in his victory over then undefeated Frank Edgar. He looks bigger than many of his opponents, but needs to finish opponents.
*Gleison Tibau's (15-5, 4-2 UFC) recent loss Tyson Griffin puts him down the ladder.

Exciting TUF Finale
Season Six Finale Recap by the MMA Blaster
Anyone who was upset at the uneventful UFC 78 should have been rejoicing after seeing the latest Ultimate Fighter Finale. Season Six wrapped up with a bang with exciting fight after exciting fight. Even though I was a little disappointed at the showing of Tom Speer, the card was great. As you can see by the results there was only one fight that went to a decision and that usually guarantees there were some fireworks. In terms of grades I would give this card an A.
Huerta v. Guida will definately get fight of the year consideration. The fight was an absolute war with Guida beating Huerta pretty bad in the first two rounds. Huerta was able to come back somehow in the third round, a round which he knew he had to do something to finish the fight. He came out with everything he had, hitting Guida with punches and knees that found their mark. Huerta was able to get Guida's back and won with a rear naked choke with just 31 seconds to spare. Because of this victory, Huerta better get a shot at the winner of Stevenson v. Penn.
Full results:
1 Jonathan Goulet defeats Paul Georgieff Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) 1 4:42
2 Roman Mitichyan defeats Dorian Price Submission (Ankle lock) 1 0:23
3 Matt Arroyo defeats John Kolosci Submission (Armbar) 1 4:42
4 Troy Mandaloniz defeats Richie Hightower KO 1 4:20
5 Ben Saunders defeats Daniel Barrera Decision (Unanimous) 3 5:00
6 George Sotiropoulos defeats Billy Miles Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) 1 1:36
7 Jon Koppenhaver defeats Jared Rollins TKO (Strikes) 3 2:01
8 Mac Danzig defeats Tom Speer Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) 1 2:01
9 Roger Huerta defeats Clay Guida Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) 3 0:31
Thoughts on the TUF fights
Ben Saunders needs to develop takedown defense because Barrera was able to get takedowns whenever he wanted. Saunders does have potential to be a UFC star with solid kicks, punches, and submission defense and offense.
Sotiropoulos should have taken on a tougher opponent because Billy has little submission defense or striking ability. George outclassed Billy.
Koppenhaver showed heart and determination in a great fight with Jared Rollins. This was a three round battle that went back and forth with J-Roc and War doing damage. After being wobbled, War Machine was able to sweep J-Roc and knock him out cold with elbows and punches with little time left in the third. This was my second favorite fight of the night.
Mandaloniz v. Hightower was a pretty exciting fight. There were times when Hightower was getting the most of the action, but then he was stunned by some huge shots and pounded out by Rude Boy.
Danzig beat Speer just two minutes into the action. Seemed like Tommy may have been a little gun shy being on the big stage for the first time in his fight career. He didn't look like himself and Danzig capitalized.

UFC Best of 2007
Thoughts by the MMA Blaster
Many of the top fights and highlights of 2007 were shown last night throughout a 3 hour session. A pretty good show, even though certain fights I saw fairly recently. Some aspects of these fights have been blown out of porportion, and I hope to bring us all back to Earth.
Edgar v. Griffin- This was a legit top three in the fights of the year. Some of the best grappling was on display in this contest and it was close. However, Edgar was definately the guy who won the fight. The defining moment of the fight, and the point I realized Edgar was the real deal, was when Griffin sunk in a knee bar. Edgar remained composed, showed heart, never stopped, and then at the end punches Griffin's leg with authority. Both of these guys will fight for a title someday.
Huerta v. Garcia- This was a top two fight of the year. Huerta is the real deal, with his strikes getting the most of Garcia. Garcia has some serious moxy though and is the definition of a scapper. Garcia never stopped his offense and didn't let the beating stop him.
Shogun Rua v. Griffin- Rua fans, it is ok, he did not get completely dominated and this was actually a very good fight. Rua was able to get a takedown's, looked decent on his feet, and just got gassed. Why? Because he had a ligament tear suffered in training and probably didn't get enough cardio work in. When he is healed, I'm sure he will rebound and challenge for the title. The thing to say about Forrest is that he is the real deal and belongs among the top of the UFC 205 division and so does Jardine. This fight got pretty nasty when Shogun opened up a cut near Forrest's hairline, the blood did not phase Forrest.
Cro-Cop v. Gonzaga- The head kick against Cro-Cop was absolutely brutal. The angle of Cro-Cop's foot after the head kick looked alot worse than I remebered.
Salmon v. Evans- Another brutal head kick, perfectly executed. They didn't show the first round last night, but Salmon was winning that fight.
Fisher v. Stout 2- Not as exciting the second time around, Stout definately lost the fight despite getting a couple cuts.
Anderson Silva- Silva is the cream of the crop. If he is on his game he can beat you on his feet or on the ground. Marquard was able to get some takedowns, but took serious punishment from Silva. Franklin was destroyed in the rematch even though it was a better effort by Franklin.
Maynard v. Emerson- I still think that Maynard should have won that fight even though he may or may not have been knocked out. As soon as Emerson hits the mat he was tapping.
Houston Alexander- This guy is a beast and looks absolutley ripped for his fights. If he can develop a better ground game and try to stay off his back he still can be a force. If Alexander's knee connects to your face you will be seeing stars shortly.
Penn v. Pulver- Penn will dominate if he stays at 155. He looked leaner and in better shape for the fight and hammered Pulver. The rear naked choke at the end of the fight was held a touch too long, but I still don't believe it was malicious.
Kenny Florian- Great year for Florian with wins over Mishima (17-6), Alvin Robinson (7-2), and Din Thomas (20-7). All three of those fights was entertaining and he put forth a technical attack.
Rampage- This guy is going to be champ for a long time. While I have seen the replay of the Chuck KO a few times, I didn't remeber the commentary. Apparently Chuck was asking his corner what happened. Liddell did not have a good year (0-2, TKO win over Tito Ortiz 12/30/06).

UFC 145 Division- One thought while watching the program was man, the UFC really needs a 145 class. Really all they have to do is take the guys from the WEC, Urijah Faber, Jeff Curran, Jens Pulver, Cub Swanson not too tough. Leonard Garcia and some of the current UFC 155's could get to 145 and it is probably a more natural weight for them. With the amount of cards the UFC is putting out, they need some more talent.

TUF Finale Preview
Preview Picks by MMA Blaster
On December 8th, this Saturday night, I will be recording the TUF Finale to watch the following morning. Unfortunately, I have two Christmas parties that I am supposed to attend that night. The past episode of the Ultimate Fighter saw Matt Arroyo suffering a rib injury and not being able to continue. John Kolosci was the only fighter enthusiatic about taking a fight with Mac Danzig. However, Mac stood stong against Kolosci's kicks and eventually got him in a rear naked choke.
The second match-up saw George Sotiropoulous v. Tom Speer. Speer threw a punch which caught George's eye. After taking a brief time-out, George re-entered and was caught by combinations and eventually got knocked out. The final is set with Speer v. Danzig.
Here are the match-ups for the finale, my picks are in bold:
MAIN CARD
Clay Guida vs. Roger Huerta
Mac Danzig vs. Tommy Speer - TUF 6 Title
Jon Koppenhaver vs. Jared Rollins
Billy Miles vs. George Sotiropoulous
Dan Barrera vs. Ben Saunders
PRELIMINARY CARD
Matt Arroyo vs. John Kolosci
Richie Hightower vs. Troy Mandaloniz
Roman Mitichyan vs. Dorian Price
Paul Georgieff vs. Jonathan Goulet
**Looks like my only loss was taking Speer over Danzig.
