Ultimate Fight Night 18 got off to a bang and then really fizzled out. The broadcast was hampered by extended commercial breaks and hyping of The Ultimate Fighter 9 and UFC 97. With the Miller v. Browning fight ending in a minute and 58 seconds, they should have gotten another 2 minute fight in.

UFC Fight Night 18 Preview
UFC Fight Night 18 will air next Wednesday, April 1st. The card features former WEC welterweight champ Carlos Condit v. Martin Kampmann. After the show will be the premier of The Ultimate Fighter Season 9. With 8 undercard fights, expect some quick finishes to make the two hour timeslot.
Carlos Condit vs. Martin Kampmann- I expect these two to test it on the feet before Condit attempts to get the fight to the ground. Carlos Condit (23-4, 0-0 UFC) is a superb grappler with 13 submissions 10 T/KO's on his resume. Condit won the WEC WW title against John Alessio and defended against Brock Larson, Carlo Prater and Hiromitsu Miura. Condit has fought in Pancrase and Rumble on the Rock with wins against Frank Trigg, Koji Oishi, Ross Ebanez and Renato Verissimo.

Martin Kampmann (14-2, 5-1 UFC) comes from a kickboxing background, but he has an excellent submission game. He is most popular for the come from behind arm triangle victory against Drew McFedries at UFC 68. Kampmann's UFC victories have come against Jorge Rivera, Crafton Wallace, Thales Lietes and Alexandre Barros.

Ryan Bader vs. Carmelo Marrero- This is a grappler v. grappler match-up that favors TUF 9 champ Ryan Bader. Bader won TUF 9 with a nasty KO of Vinny Magalhaes. Bader (8-0, 1-0 UFC) may stand and trade with Marrero, denying his takedown attempts. To get to the finals of TUF, Bader subbed Kyle Kingsbury, KO'd Tom Lawlor and won a unanimous decision over Eliot Marshall.

Carmelo Marrero (10-2, 1-2 UFC) was also wrestler in college, but competing in the junior college circuit doesn't compare to Bader's All-American status at ASU. Marrero is most known for his split decision defeat of Cheick Kongo at UFC 64. After that win, Marrero lost to Gabriel Gonzaga and Wilson Gouveia and was cut from the UFC. Marrero has stormed back, winning 4 fights straight with his last over Steve Steinbeis in the WEC.

Rafael dos Anjos vs. Tyson Griffin- Tyson Griffin (12-2, 5-2 UFC) is a top level wrestler with some big wins in and out of the UFC. Inside the UFC, Griffin was within grasp of a title shot, but lost to Sean Sherk last October. Before the UFC, he TKO'd Urijah Faber and Duane Ludwig. Inside the UFC, Griffin has decision wins over Clay Guida, Marcus Aurelio, Gleison Tibau and Thiago Tavares while submitting David Lee.

Dos Anjos (11-3, 0-1 UFC) was dominating Jeremy Stephens with excllent grappling for two rounds of his UFC debut. Unfortunately, in the third round Stephens unleased an uppercut that put out dos Anjos out. Outside the UFC, dos Anjos has wins in Brazil and Japan, with his biggest win over Takafumi Otsuka
Junie Browning vs. Cole Miller- Surprising Cole Miller is the one running his mouth before this fight saying he will give Junie a beatdown in this battle of TUF veterans. Cole Miller (14-3, 3-1 UFC) is a lanky 155 pound fighter, who has an excellent triangle. Miller has a last second submission of the night victory over Jorge Gurgel in his last fight. Prior to that, Miller lost to Jeremy Stephens, beat Leonard Garcia via decision and Andy Wang.

Junie Browning (3-0, 1-0 UFC) looked impressive in the TUF 8 finale, beating up Frank Mir favorite Dave Kaplan. The first round Junie looked to have good stand-up and in the second was able to get an arm-bar. My guess is that Junie will look to keep the fight standing, getting inside to take away Miller's reach.

UFC 93 Results
UFC 93 took place in Dublin, Ireland this past Saturday. Unfortunately for fans, we got a very lackluster main event and co-main event. Dan Henderson edged out a pretty uneventful split decision victory that could have ended in a draw. With the victory, which featured a few takedowns and an accidental eye poke, Henderson is now the likely coach for TUF 9: England v. USA.

Shogun Rua managed to finish Mark Coleman at the very end of the third frame. Unfortunately, both fighters were relatively gassed the entire fight. Palhares versus Horn turned out to be a good fight, but it also went to decision. The saving grace was Lytle v. Davis which featured a stand-up war.
The undercard was probably more exciting as it featured 5 TKO victories. Martin Kampmann was successful in his debut at 170 pounds. He should be a force to be reckoned with possessing solid stand-up and striking skills.

UFC 88 Preview
**All fighters have made weight and are ready to go. The Parisyan v. Yoshida fight was scrapped when Karo withdrew because of a back injury.
Below are some fights that are listed on UFC.com as the line-up for UFC 88 in Atlanta, Georgia. The fights will take place on September 6th.
Rashad Evans (11-0-1) vs. Chuck Liddell (21-5)- Both fighters are looking at a possible title shot if they are victorious. Rashad may try to showcase his boxing skills and keep the contest standing. If that is the case, Liddell will be looking for a knockout punch. With Liddell's legendary take down defense, Rashad might not be able to showcase his wrestling ability.
Rashad's last fight was a split decision victory over Michael Bisping almost a year ago. Prior to that fight, Rashad has a controversial draw with Tito Ortiz, a high kick KO of Sean Salmon, and a KO of Jason Lambert.
In December of 2007, Liddell had a great victory over Wanderlei Silva. Prior to that, Liddell had lost to Rampage Jackson via KO, and a slim decision loss to Keith Jardine. Liddell had to push the bout back one time due to injury.
Rich Franklin (23-3) vs. Matt Hamill (4-1)- Former MW champ Franklin will be moving up to 205 pounds for the first time since his win over Ken Shamrock. Franklin was victorious over Travis Lutter in his last fight. Prior to that fight, Franklin suffered his second loss to Anderson Silva.
Hamill is coming off an outstanding victory over Tim Boetsch in April. Prior to that fight, Hamill lost a controversial decision to Michael Bisping. More than likely, Hamill will try to take the fight to the ground. Franklin will try to keep it standing. This will be the toughest fighter Hamill has fought to date. It will be interesting to see where this fight goes.

Karo Parisyan (18-5) vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida (10-2)- Karo is coming off a slightly controversial loss to rising star Thiago Alves. Karo thought it was an early stoppage, but he should have avoided the knee that connected flush to his face and dropped him to the canvas. Prior to that loss, Karo had defeated Ryo Chonan, Josh Burkman and Drew Fickett via unanimous decision.
Yoshida is riding a 9 fight win streak, recently choking Jon Koppenhaver unconscious in his UFC debut. Akira Kikuchi (16-4) and Luis Sapo (15-2) are among his victories during the streak. It would be nice to see a little emotion out of Yoshida, who didn't appear to care about the awesome victory over War Machine.

Marquardt lost a very strange split decision to Thales Leites in his last fight. The former King of Pancrase has wins over Jeremy Horn, Dean Lister, Crafton Wallace and Joe Doerkson in the UFC.

UFC 85
Paul Taylor def. Jess Liaudin via split decision
Antoni Hardonk def. Eddie Sanchez via TKO- R2, 4:15
Martin Kampmann def. Jorge Rivera via submission (guillotine choke)- R1, 2:44- Very good to to see Danish fighter Kampmann do well in his comeback. He has been sidelined for over 15 months with various injuries after injuring his knee. Kampmann now has 4 straight victories in the UFC.
Matt Wiman def. Thiago Tavares via KO (punch)- R2, 1:57- Both fighters got the fight of the night bonus' for their efforts. It was a back and forth battle with both fighters getting punched, going for submissions, and defending. In the end, Wiman was able to rock Tavares for the KO. Quietly, Wiman now has four straight victories.
Kevin Burns def. Roan Carneiro via submission (triangle choke)- R2, 2:53- This fight won submission of the night. Burns was able to submit Carneiro, who is a black belt in BJJ. Burns has fought mainly in Des Moines, Iowa.
Luiz Cane def. Jason Lambert via TKO (strikes)- R1, 2:07- Cane landed the crisper shots while Lambert was looking for a takedown. After Lambert was dazed, it was all over as Cane capitalized and forced a ref stoppage.
Fabricio Werdum def. Brandon Vera TKO (Punches)- R1, 4:40- This was a controversial fight in that Vera was able to stun Werdum with strikes in the beginning of the round. After a takedown and scramble, Vera ended up covered up and eventually mounted. Werdum threw quite a few strikes, seldom of which landed, most of which were blocked. Unfortunately, the ref stopped the fight. Vera was very angry at the stoppage. While I agree it was an early stoppage, Vera should have done something to improve his position. With the win, Werdum has moved higher up the heavyweight ladder.
Thales Leites def. Nathan Marquardt Decision (Split)- Marquardt basically lost the fight on an illegal knee and strike to the back of the head point deductions. Back in the day, Marquardt would have probably won the fight. Regardless, not a convincing victory.
Mike Swick def. Marcus Davis Decision (Unanimous)- Swick basically took down Davis and used position to win the fight.
Michael Bisping def. Jason Day TKO (Punches)- R1, 3:42- Bisping came out and dominated Day from start to finish. After a trip takedown, Bisping rained down punishment until the action was called.
Thiago Alves def. Matt Hughes TKO (Knee and punches)- R2, 1:02- The first round was close, but Hughes was rejected in his takedown attempts and then Alves landed some clean shots before the bell. In the second, Alves landed a knee clean to the body and followed it up with shots to the face to finish off Hughes.
*After two losses in a row the only logical fight for Hughes would be Matt Serra.
*Alves has moved up the ladder in the 170 pound class, the win is blemished by him being overweight. I wouldn't be surprised in a fight with Josh Koscheck or Diego Sanchez.

UFC 85 Preview
Running on the heels of an awesome UFC 84 card, UFC 85 will be hard pressed to top it. The card has had numerous rumors about participants, as certain fighters fell victim to the injury bug. Chuck Liddell was originally supposed to fight Rashad Evans, but suffered a nasty hamstring injury. The card is loaded with Brazilians and quite a few fights have the potential to be very exciting. The weigh-in results just came out, and Thiago Alves failed to make weight.
