Sapp recently got in the win column by defeating "Akebono" Chad Rowan in a Shootboxing match in Rizen FF on NYE.

Overeem (39-14, 4-3 UFC) fights Junior Dos Santos at UFC on Fox 17 this Saturday.

Video of the Day - Sapp v. Thompson

Here is Bob Sapp fighting James Thompson at SFL 1 which took place 3/11/12 in Mubai, India. As you can see, this is not a pretty fight. I posted it because of numerous requests of people wanting to know what happened.

I honestly don't know how Sapp reversed Thompson from the bottom. I don't know how Sapp's knee then got hurt. I have seen knee injuries occur in practice, and it really doesn't take much. Ugly fight to say the least.

Dream's Dynamite!! 2010 Preview

Dream's year end Dynamite show will take place at the Saitama Super Arena in Japan on December 31st, with a broadcast in North America on HDNet. Main event bouts include title fights between Bibiano Fernandes versus Hiroyuki Takaya and Marius Zaromskis versus Kazushi Sakuraba.

Rising Brazilian star Bibiano Fernandes (8-2, #6 ranked FW) will look to use his quickness and slick takedowns to defeat Hiroyuki "Streetfight Bancho" Takaya (14-8). Takaya has two straight KO's over Chase Beebe and Joachim Hansen in Dream. Expect Takaya to try to keep the fight standing to use his heavy hands.

The stacked card features four top ten fighters and several legends of MMA. As per usual, the card has it odd fights. Bob Sapp will fight sumo fighter Shinichi Suzukawa in an MMA bout without gloves, thus no closed fist strikes. Shinya Aoki(#4 ranked LW) fights Yuichiro Nagashim in a bout featuring a 3 minute kickboxing round then a 5 minute MMA round. Gegard Mousasi(#10 ranked LHW) and "Wicky" Nishiura will take part in kickboxing bouts.

Ultimate Chaos Results

Bobby Lashley looked impressive in his fourth mixed martial arts bout in a victory over the massive Bob Sapp. Wanting to avoid any big punches while standing, Lashley immediately scored a double leg takedown and then threw punches until the bout was called. It will be interesting to see where Lashley fights next.

Gilbert Yvel looked impressive in his fight with Pedro Rizzo. Rizzo scored an early takedown and worked ground and pound before Yvel was able to push kick Rizzo off. When the action was standing, Yvel threw a head kick, following Rizzo to the ground. From there, Yvel threw punches, knocking Rizzo completely unconscious.

K-1 Fields Dynamite Results

I've been watching the fights on dailymotion.com. Unfortunately, K-1 and HDNet couldn't work out a deal to get the card broadcast in the states. The Joachim Hansen v. JZ Calvancante was scratched as Hansen did not pass his pre-fight physical.

The Melvin Manhoef KO of Mark Hunt is pretty awesome, check that one out. The biggest upset of the night has to go to Alistair Overeem knocking out K-1 Grand Prix runner-up Badr Hari. The best comeback I've seen so far was the surprising effort by Bob Sapp. Sapp was taken down and absorbing light hammerfists on his back before getting out of it and tagging his anime masked foe. Despite having an arm free for the taking, apparently anime characters don't know arm bars.

Strikeforce - At the Dome February 23rd

Bodog Presents: Strikeforce at the Dome - Preview by the MMA Blaster

+I'll put out the results once I see most of the fights. So far they have been hard to find.+

The most recent installment comes at us this Saturday, February 23rd from Tacoma, Washington. While this card doesn't have the star power of the March 29th Shamrock v. Le card, there will be some exciting fights. There is a decent article on the Strikeforce website, but the records they use are a bit decieving. I think they integrate kickboxing and boxing records with MMA record, so I'm not using that. The event will be broadcast live on HDNet at 10:30 Eastern time.

Main Card:
Jan Nortje (1-5) v. Bob Sapp (9-2-1)- There will be some serious weight pushed around for this one. Bob Sapp overpowered his last opponent, Bobby Ologun (2-2) in a K-1 event in Japan. That was Sapp's first fight since 2005. While Sapp is a massive 6'5" weighing 300 pounds, Nortje is 6'10" and weighs upwards of 300 pounds as well. Strikeforce has Nortje's record as (25-17, I'm guessing that is K-1 kickboxing) and claims he is an undefeated boxer. I'm guessing that Sapp will try to take down Nortje and ground and pound. Hopefully these two don't destroy the cage.

Maurice Smith (11-10) v. Rick "The Jet" Roufus (0-0)- Ex UFC heavyweight champ Mo Smith is also a former K1 North American kickboxing champ. Strikefore lists his record at (73-20-4, I'm guessing K-1 record). Roufus is a six-time world kickboxing champion and former World Boxing Council (WBC) Continental Americas champion, the Strikeforce listed record of (57-7) is probably a kickboxing record. Look for the two fighters to stand and trade. Someone will probably end up KO'd.



Joe Riggs (27-9) v. Cory Devela (7-1)- UFC vet Riggs is coming off an impressive win at the Strikeforce Playboy event over Eugene Jackson (15-8). Riggs dominated Jackson knocking him out in the first round. Devela's last outing saw him win a decision over UFC vet Lodune Sincaid (12-6). Devela's only loss was to UFC vet Ed Herman.

Jorge Masvidal (12-2) v. Ryan Healy (9-2-1)- Since Healy's loss to Razor Rob in the WEC he has bounced back with two TKO wins over Robbie Shamrock (0-1) and Ryan Bixler (13-4). Masvidal has been on a tear since his loss to Paul Rodriguez, winning 6 straight (3 in Bodog, 1 in Strikeforce) including wins over Yves Edwards (33-13), Matt Lee (9-7), Steve Berger (18-17) and Keith Wisniewski (22-12).

Brad Blackburn (10-9-1) v. Ray Perales (9-13)- IFL vet Blackburn actually KO'd IFL welterweight champ Jay Hieron (14-4) prior to his last fight which ended in a no contest. Ray Perales scored a decision win over Blackburn in their previous fight in 2005. Since that win, Perales has gone (2-6).

Dynamite is probably the way I would describe Kid Yamamoto's (17-1) latest effort against Rani Yahya. Yamamoto overwelmed Yahya from the start and administered punishment from the get go. Here are the quick results:

I watched the fights on Ultimate MMA Fight Videos - see the link on the right. I can't believe Zulu won (Wagner). Bob Sapp beatdown Ologun, the ground and pound shots were massive. Sakuraba looked good in his win over Funaki, Funaki went for the old Pancrase knee bar, but it just didn't do the trick. Manhoef absolutely worked over Nishijima.

Elite XC Rumored to be Pulling a Tourney Together

Thoughts by the MMA Blaster

The website mmascoops.com is reporting that Elite XC is trying to stage a 4 man tournament. While there is no confirmation of this on Elite XC's website, it got me to thinking what the tourney would look like. It is rumored to be an open, no weight limit, tournament with Tank Abbott, Kimbo Slice, Butterbean, and Bob Sapp are supposed to be invited.

The odds of all these four accepting the invite to the rumored tournament is at tops 5%. Tourney's are fun, but I'd like to see Elite XC try to find some better fighters. The only one out of those four I'd expect to show up is Kimbo Slice (under contract). Here are some bio's on these four larger than life personalities:

Kevin Ferguson aka Kimbo Slice (1-0)- Legendary streetfighter turned mixed martial artist. Clips of him KO'ing fools is popular on Youtube. He TKO'd a scared looking Bo Cantrell (10-11) in his debut fight. Kimbo would be the lightest fighter of the group, have the best cardio, but the least experience.



Bob Sapp (9-2)- Sapp was a former pro football player who ventured into MMA. His popularity has been the highest in Japan where he was a pro wrestler, K1 kickboxer, tv star(youtube), and MMA fighter in Pride then K1. Sapp put a beatdown on Bobby Ologun (2-2) overwelming him with huge punches in the first round in K-1 Dynamite. That was his first MMA fight in two years.



Tank Abbott (9-13)- Tank Abbott was a crowd and fan favorite in the early UFC's. In UFC 6, he destroyed John Matua and Paul Varelens and lost an exciting final to Oleg Taktarov. Tank also made it to the final of UU96, where he destroyed Cal Worsham and Steve Nelmark before losing an exciting final against Don Frye. There are rumors that Tank is taking training seriously again, but that has been said before.



Eric "Butterbean" Esch (10-4)- Butterbean was an exciting boxer in his day, having extremely heavy hands. He has fought in Cage Rage and Pride at around 400 pounds. He keylocked the massive Zuluzinho, had a controversial KO stoppage against James Thompson and a win over Cabbage Correia. Cardio is probably the biggest thorn in the side of Butterbean, also getting up from the canvas after a takedown.
