Bellator Women's Tournament Final Set

Bellator's women's tournament has the finale set for Bellator 34 on October 28th in Hollywood, Florida. Undefeated submission ace Megumi Fujii will take on striker Zoila Frausto.  The tournament has seen Fujii run rough-shot over the field with 2 submissions.  Zoila notched a KO to get into the tourney before notching two decision wins.

Finale Match-up:  Megumi Fujii v. Zoila Frausto

Finalist- Zoila "Warrior Princess" Frausto (10-1, 3-0 BFC)- Zolia earned her way into the Bellator tournament by delivering Rosi Sexton the first KO loss of her career with a nasty knee and punches. Zolia will look to use her Muay Thai striking to get far in the tournament.  Zolia defeated Jessica Pene via unanimous decision in the 1st round. In the second round of the tournament Zoila defeated Jessica Aguilar via a narrow split decision.

Finalist- Megumi Fujii (22-0, 3-0 BFC)- Mega Megu is arguably the best women's submission fighter in the history of MMA with 18 sub victories. The Japanese dynamo already has the best undefeated mark in MMA history at a perfect 22 and 0. Megumi defeated Sara Schneider in her Bellator debut getting her first TKO. In the first round of the tournament, she defeated Carla Esparanza with a 2nd round arm-bar.  In the second round, Megumi repeated history, locking in a fight ending arm-bar against Lisa Ward.

Bellator Women's Tourney Set

Despite a rash of legal proceedings against the UFC, TUF 12 competitor Jonathan Brookins and heavyweight prospect Dave "Pee Wee" Herman, Bellator will be coming back this Thursday night on Fox Sports Net.

The first event will take place this Thursday from the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Florida. The event will feature two women's tournament bouts, Megumi Fujii v. Carla Esparaza and Jessica Aguilar v. Lynn Alvarez. The heavyweight tourney will kick off as well, featuring UFC veterans Eddie Sanchez and Neil Grove.

Here is a look at the Women's 115 pound field:

Megumi Fujii (20-0, 1-0 BFC)- Mega Megu is arguably the best women's submission fighter in the history of MMA with 16 sub victories. The Japanese dynamo already has the best undefeated mark in MMA history at a perfect 20 and 0. Megumi defeated Sara Schneider in her Bellator debut.

Carla Esparza (3-0)- This college wrestler will no doubt challenge Fujii in her first match with relentless takedowns. However, she is a relative newcomer in MMA just starting pro competition in February of 2010. All three of her fights have ended in submission.

Zolia "Warrior Princess" Frausto (7-1, 1-0 BFC)- Zolia earned her way into the Bellator tournament by delivering Rosi Sexton the first KO loss of her career with a nasty knee and punches. Zolia will look to use her Muay Thai striking to get far in the tournament.

Aisling Daly (9-0)- Daly is arguably the top women's fighter in the United Kingdom. The Irish fighter has 5 TKO's and 3 submissions on her record. Daly has notched 3 of her victories in the Cage Rage promotion.

Jessica Pene (7-0, 1-0 BFC)- This California based fighter has been dominating the lighter women since 2006. She defeated Tammie Schneider at Bellator 5, and followed it up with a rear naked choke of Angela Magana.

Lisa Ward (13-5, 1-0 BFC)- Lisa earned her way into the Bellator tourney by defeating Stephanie Frausto at Bellator 22. She has been fighting for 6 years, fighting in Smackgirl, Bodog and Deep.

Jessica Aguilar (8-3)- The American Top Team product has earned her way to the Bellator tourney with three straight wins in the Action Fight League. She has two wins over Angela Magana.

Lynn Alvarez (5-1)- The Shogun MMA fighter has 4 straight wins on her record, including a submission of Chelsea Colarelli in Shark Fights.

Elite XC - CBS Style Preview

Elite XC will debut Saturday May 31st on CBS. The fights will be taking place in Newark, New Jersey. Promoter Gary Shaw expects a sellout. He better also help for weather that keeps people indoors on a Saturday night.

Champ Robbie Lawler (16-4) vs. Scott Smith (13-4)- This Middleweight championship fight will most likely be another stand-up brawl. Both guys are known for standing and trading. Lawler's background in Miletich Fighting would lead you to believe he may try to bring the fight to the ground.

Kimbo Slice (2-0) v. James Thompson (14-8)- Kimbo and Thompson will more than likely stand and trade punches. The fighter that is able to land more will win, and from what we have seen of Thompson there is a good chance he is the one going down. He has lost his last two fights by way of KO. Kimbo is coming off KO wins of Bo Cantrell and Tank Abbott.

Gina Carano (5-0) vs. Kaitlin Young (4-1)- Gina Carano hasn't fought since September of 2007 and has done two seasons of American Gladiators since. Carano will be cutting to make 140 and Young normally fights at 135, so Carano will probably have a strenght advantage. Carano will likely impose her will and utilize her muay thai background. In her last fight, Young lost in BoDog to Sara Schneider. Carano has beaten four quality opponents in a row in Rosi Sexton, Elaina Maxwell, Julie Kedzie and Tonya Evinger.

*MMA Blaster supports women's mma, and is happy to see women on the main card. I do think that Elite XC should try to get some talent from Japan and have a 140 class and a 120 class. Megumi Fugii and Satoko Shinashi are solid, as well as Tara LaRosa.

Jon Murphy (4-2) vs. Brett Rogers (6-0)- Brett "Grim" Rogers will look to stand and drop bombs on Murphy. Rogers stands 6'5" and just makes th 265 pound cutoff. Murphy will probably give up two to three inches and 20 to thirty pounds to Rogers. The fight will probably result in a KO if Murphy cant take down Grim. In his last fight Rogers knocked out Kimbo's opponent, James Thompson.

Phil Baroni (10-9) vs. Joey Villasenor (25-6)- The ever confident Baroni has predicted a knock out victory in the first round. That shouldn't come to a surprise with anyone that is familiar with the New York Bad Ass. Villasenor recently won in Strikeforce against Ryan Jensen (11-4).

Video of the Day - Satoko Shinashi

Photobucket

Satoko Shinashi (28-1-2) just won the Deep Flyweight Women's tournament beating Fukuko Hamada (4-2) then Sachi Sachi (4-3) by armbar in the finals. She is one of the biggest stars in women's MMA. I'd love to see a match-up with Megumi Fujii (14-0). Other stars of women's MMA include Tara LaRosa (15-1), Amanda Buckner (11-4), Jennifer Howe (13-2), and Gina Carano (5-0). Check out the video below for highlights of Satoko's great career.

For those of you who don't think women should be allowed to compete in MMA (Karo Parisyan cough), get out of the 18th century. Women can fight and die in the military and do anything else a guy can do. Right now, the only problem with women's MMA is that there aren't enough fighters.
