Mackenzie Dern To Remain At 115

Mackenzie Dern (7-0, 2-0 UFC) came to UFC 224, weighing in 7 pounds over the 116 pound limit. Dern was able to submit Amanda Bobby Cooper in that bout, but several critics voiced their displeasure with Dern missing weight.

The UFC has not yet asked her to move up to the 125 pound flyweight division as of yet, but you can imagine that another miss will result in her moving up permanently.

Dern's submission game is arguably the best at straweight. Her striking is improving, though her striking defense is still lacking.

Jeff Glover v. Daniel Hortegas - ADCC 2015

Here is Jeff Glover grappling against Daniel Hortegas at ADCC 2015. Glover is a 3rd degree BJJ black belt training out of Victory MMA. He has competed in Metamoris as well, most notably coming out from the announcing table to grapple Baret Yoshida in a surprise bout.

Ricardo Almeida versus David Terrell ADCC

Here are UFC veterans Ricardo Almeida and David Terrell in the Bronze medal ADCC grappling match from 2003. The bout took place at the Ibirapuera Gymnasium in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

David Terrell (5-2, 2-1 UFC) was a Cezar Gracie prodigy who broke thru quickly with his high level BJJ and knockout power. He armbarred Joey Villasenor in his second bout before KO'ing Yuki Sasaki in Pancrase and tapping Osami Shibuta via rear naked choke.

In his UFC debut, he KO'd Matt Lindand in 24 seconds prompting UFC to send him into a middleweight title fight against Evan Tanner. Terrell had a tight guillotine in the first but lost the bout. He tapped out Scott Smith in his next and final UFC bout. Terrell has a submission grappling record that includes victories over Dean Lister, David Avellan and Saulo Ribeiro.

Ricardo Almeida (13-5, 6-4 UFC) was the first BJJ blackbelt under Renzo Gracie and dominated through several grappling circles. He holds submission grappling wins over Josh Barnett, Vitor Shaolin and Mike Van Arsdale. Almeida also had success in MMA, fighting in the UFC 8 times. He submitted Nate Marquardt in Pancrase and submitted Matt Brown while taking decisions over Kendall Grove, Ryo Chonan and Matt Horwich.

Magalhaes v. Nemkov - GoGo

Magalhaes is riding a 4 fight win streak outside the UFC. He has career submission wins over Matt Hamill, Jason Brillz and Igor Pokrajac.

Here is Vinny Magalhaes going against current UFC fighter Chris Weidman in a 2009 ADCC qualifier match. Vinny went on to take a bronze in both the absolute and under 99KG's in 2009. He would win the over 99KG division this year.

Wiedman, who took 3rd in the NCAA's at 197 pounds in 2007, has started his MMA career off with 9 straight victories, going 5-0 in the UFC. His last win was a KO of Mark Munoz.

Vinny's M-1 Global contract finally expired, opening his way to a return to the UFC. He has won 6 straight, including an M-1 belt. Vinny submitted Igor Pokrajac at UFC 152 with a beautiful armbar. An argument can be made that he deserved the submission of the night over Jon Jones. He will next fight Phil Davis at UFC 159.

Here is Pablo Popovich grappling Ben Askren at the 2009 Abu Dhabi in the 77 KG (169 pound) division which took place in Barcelona, Spain.

Pablo Popovich, a 4th degree BJJ blackbelt, has several accolades including a 2009 ADCC championship, and grappling wins over Marcelo Garcia, Gregor Gracie, Jake Shields, Renzo Gracie and Saulo Ribiero. He was recently in the news after Thiago Silva came to his gym with a gun honking his horn. Silva is currently in jail awaiting a trial on aggravated assault charges.

Askren was coming off an appearance in the 2008 Olympics in freestyle wrestling. Askren defeated Toni Lindin via submission in his first bout. Later in 2009, Askren would win gold in the 2009 FILA World Grappling Championships defeating UFC veteran Jacob Volkmann. Askren will next compete in One FC in May of 2014.

Galvao is a 2nd degree blackbelt in BJJ who took gold in the 2011 ADCC 88KG and Absolute divisions. Estima, a 3rd degree black belt, took gold in the 2009 ADCC 88KG and Absolute division. Each has several other world titles to their credit.

Video of the Day - GSP v. Santos

Here is Georges St. Pierre going against Leo Santos at the ADCC 2005 qualifier. Georges St. Pierre last defended his welterweight title at UFC 158 against Nick Diaz.

Dos Santos will fight for the 2nd Ultimate Fighter Brazil final after defeating Luciano Contini, Juliano Wandalen and Thiago Santos. He would lose to Santiago Ponzinibbio via decision, but Ponzinibbio broke his hand and Dos Santos was granted a shot at the title.

UFC on Fuel 10 - Nogueira v. Werdum 2 takes place this Saturday, June 8th in Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil at the Paulo Sarasate Arena. The fights will broadcast on FUEL TV and Facebook.

ADCC 2011 Results - Galvao Domination

Andre Galvao is the talk of the Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling 2011 tournament, winning the absolute and under 88KG divisions. Braulio Estima, 2009's big winner, defeated Jacare in the superfight on points, 3-0. Mario Sperry also won a superfight against Renzo Gracie, 5-0.

Galvao, a BJJ blackbelt under Fernando "Tererê" Augusto, now runs his own school. As you can see below, Brazilian fighters dominated the field, with the exception of Dean Lister taking the under 99KG division.

To win the absolute finale, Galvao defeated Shinsho Anzai, Sergio Moraes, Murilo Santana and Pablo Popovitch via toehold for the championship. In the 88KG division, he defeated Don Ortega, Gunnar Nelson, Pablo Popovitch and Rousimar Palhares. Galvao (6-2 MMA) indicated he may return to the MMA arena, though he enjoys running his school. Galvao's biggest MMA wins have come over John Alessio, Jorge Patino and Jeremiah Metcalf.

You'll notice plenty of high level MMA fighters including Vinny Magalhaes of TUF 8 winning the over 99KG division over Fabricio Werdum on points. 2009's over 99KG winner, this years 2nd place winner, Strikeforce/UFC veteran Fabricio Werdum. Current UFC fighter Rousimar Palhares took 2nd in the under 88KG division, securing three heel hooks to make the final, eventually losing on points to Andre Galvao.
